Weequahic Memories Part 1

by Jacqueline Klein

I grew up in the Weequahic section and my mother and grandmother owned the first maternity shop...located on Lyons Ave...near Elizabeth Ave.....next to a candy store and Henrietta's beauty salon...there was a Mikvah next door and a beautiful old stone church across the street....I loved being in Newark...the memories have never tarnished.....we used to eat at Kartzmans....and buy our lox and bagels on Saturday night at Tabatchnicks....it smelled so good...from the pickles in the barrels....and next door was Kayes drug store...and Lehr's tobacco shop...and the fancy Elsie stone dress shop...does anyone remember this....please write and let me know...I feel sad when I remember my beautiful childhood in Newark....
