Vailsburg

by Ann Marie Giordano

Longfellow Avenue on which I lived was absolutely beautiful. It is on borderline of South Orange and Newark and the last street in Newark on that side of South Orange Avenue. It was a tree lined street with single family homes, beautiful lawns and gardens. Each morning you woke up to the smell of honeysuckles and lilacs blooming and scent of dew on the grass. My father had one of the most beautiful gardens and neighbors stopped as they passed by to admire it and the roses he grew.

I was once photographed by a Newark News photographer at Boylan St Pool when they were there to cover a story about the pool and summer activities. It later appeared in the newspaper. I've lost that newspaper clipping and was wondering if there is a way to get a copy of it? Please tell me if you have any ideas.

I was about 10 yrs at the time. Born in 1950 and lived in different parts of Newark prior to Vailsburg and have many memories.
