Newark

by Don Treadwell

I was just reading about Brummers and it sparked another Newark memory. I recall getting "Knothole" Cards in school and for a penny you could go see the Newark Bears play ay Ruppert Stadium. They also had the Black Yankees - an all negro league team. They were great - there was no bias in watching them. I also recall the House Of David team and one that played on donkeys but its a little hazy. Newark wasn't a city - it was a frame of mind. I'll always be a Newarker.
