The Rag Man

by Jule Spohn

Growing up in the 1940's on South Orange Avenue and 12th Street I can remember that every so often the "Rag Man" would come down the block on his horse and wagon collecting old clothes, rags, etc. Still don't know what he did with them though.

If you had knives to be sharpened - he sharpened them.

If you had an umbrella that was broken - he fixed it.

I wish he still came around on his horse and wagon. I have three umbrellas that need to be fixed, and six knives that need to be sharpened. If anyone sees him tell him to come back to Newark.

We miss him.
