How many remember the pet shops in their
neighborhood - where you bought your turtles, little yellow Easter
chicks, rabbits, WHITE MICE, gold fish, parakeets, and canaries?
I had totally forgotten about the one on South Orange Avenue between
12th Street and Ashland Street. It was between Terry's Sweet Shoppe
and the Strand Movie Theater until Frankie had reminded me about
it and the fact that he had bought a white mouse there. I can now
remember that I pleaded and begged my mother to let my also buy
a white mouse from there but there was no way she'd let me get it.
This was back in the 40's or early 50's.
