Response to Patrol Boy

by Harry Capko

I am a graduate of Sacred Heart School,1971. I was one of 2 patrol boys (the other was Richie Anderson) stationed at Sanford Avenue and Fortuna St. We had to place the yellow "City of Newark" barricades across the street because everyone lined up on Fortuna Street when the bell rang. We wore a white Sam Brown type belt over our uniforms with the badge on it. Like you, I still have my Patrol Boy Certificate from the City of Newark. I think you are correct when you say that the system was replaced in the 1970s.
