1. Newark's five-man
City Commission form of government was voted on October 9, 1917. Prior to
that time, the city was headed by 32 councilmen, representing the various
wards. On November 13, 1917, the first city commission election was held
with 81 candidates vying for the five seats. William J. Brennan was one
of the five winners. |
