4. Nusbaum had befriended Gleason in 1937 when he was just starting out as a performer. He was then appearing at the Empire Burlesque. Gleason, then 21 years old, confided to Nusbaum that he wanted to marry but couldn't afford a wedding reception.

Nusbaum stood at Gleason's side for the wedding and then played host for a wedding reception consisting of a few friends in a downtown Newark bar. Nusbaum later recalled that the food consisted of franks and beans.

From the Empire, Gleason took a job as MC at the Blue Mirror Lounge at 273 Clinton Avenue, just above Hayes Circle. Nusbaum served as Gleason's first agent.

Many years later, when Gleason was at the peak of his popularity and was taping his shows in Florida, Nusbaum took his granddaughter with him to visit Gleason at one of the tapings and was warmly welcomed.
