4. Henry and Murray
got their boxed Christmas Card assortments from Julius Pollak & Sons,
Inc., at 141 East 25th Street in New York City, then the country's largest
publisher of boxed Christmas card assortments.
The year they started doing business with Pollak was the same year that I was hired by the Pollak organization to create and manage a direct marketing department to service its accounts. For decades previously, the Pollak company had relied entirely on commission salesmen to service its accounts, but disbanded its sales force in 1948 and hired me to be an in-house "direct marketing" replacement for their former sales force.
