2. The November 1943 issue of the "Bodian Bugle & News.", a newspaper published for Newark friends in uniform from my overseas base on Ascension Island during World War 2, carried this Newark item:

A report has been made to City officials that Newark is getting unfavorable publicity through the mailing of picture postcards mailed home from servicemen there.

The cards, it is said, still have trolleys and safety islands on Broad Street and other ancient-looking innovations. A card manufacturer admitted that no new cards had been made in recent years.
