2. Actually, Molly Picon was not from Warsaw. Her father had come from Warsaw, and her mother from Kiev, Russia. She had been born in a tenement in New York City on June 1, 1898.

Molly started in the Yiddish theatre through her mother, a seamstress, who made dresses for actors. One of the actresses had told her mother about an opening in Mike Tomashefsky's Yiddish stock company and, at the age of six, Molly Picon began playing children's parts in Tomashefsky's company.
