1. There was a special
language that Weequahic High-Schoolers used in the 40s and 50s when ordering
at Syds: A hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut was an "mk". A hot dog with mustard, kraut and relish was "a dawg all the way." (You added 'sweet' or 'hot' for type of relish desired). If you wanted your hot dog with french fries, you added "and fries." The popular Syd's menu drink was a "kuk" ('u' as in moon). "kuk" was short for the menu name "Kukamonga." It was a non-carbonated drink, grape flavor, with a slice of lemon, served in a tall, straight glass with ice and straw. |
