1. The final boxing match at Laurel Garden on May 30, l953 pitted Brooklyn-born Joey Giardello against Hurley Sander in a middleweight fight that was nationally televised. Giardello won by a decision.

For Giardello,, it was the 62nd of his l33 career fights. He would later win the world middleweight title on December 7, 1963 by out boxing Dick Tiger in Atlantic City. Giardello was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993.
