1. The Veterans Administration
Building at Washington Park was built in 1920 by the Globe Insurance Company
as its headquarters. The building replaced two mansions that previously
were located there. The building was designed by Frank Goodwillie, and is
an example of the Second Renaissance Revival style. The Veterans Administration
Building is much in character in materials, workmanship, and basic style
with similar institutional structures on Washington Park, such as the Newark
Public Library and the Newark Museum.
The building is a landmark with the James Street commons Historic District.
